The idea of smart cities has emerged due to rapid technological advancements. An urban region that uses technology and information to improve residents’ quality of life while cutting expenses and resource consumption is known as a “smart city.” Many cities around the globe have already adapted to the use of AI to make their cities more efficient and smarter. Its integration has been an integral form of economic development in major cities around the world. One such region where its use could flourish is the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Further, AI integration can prove advantageous in the sustainable sector to make smart cities greener. To complete comparative analysis, case studies and research have been done on instances in other smart cities to understand the applications and benefits of the concepts and technologies classified as artificial intelligence systems. Moreover, to understand its implications in terms of effectiveness and innovation in the current scenario, an in-depth analysis has been done on the current trends and scenario of the GCC region in terms of implementation of artificial intelligence. This study looks at the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in smart cities, particularly in the GCC region. The research performs multiple case studies of different cities around the globe, their AI adoption strategies, and how they may be used and modified for smart city growth in the GCC. Specifically, the research conducts a comprehensive comparative analysis of Singapore and Manama in light of their geographical proximity, population concentration, and GDP per capita. Further, a future direction has also been outlined for these cities based on the global trends. Status and innovative use have also been examined to realize the scope of further development required in the field. In conclusion, the evolution, benefits, and potential of artificial intelligence as it is incorporated into the overall GCC region's smart city ecosystem and will be examined and assessed in this research paper.
