This concluding chapter provides an overview of the prolonged crisis faced by the Rohingya people, detailing their historical struggles and the genocidal actions they have endured in Myanmar. The analysis covers the mass exodus of Rohingya refugees since the 1982 Citizenship Act and the intensified violence from the 2017 genocide to the recent brutalities of 2024. In a way, this has repeated—but also departed from—the mass exodus of 1798–1800. The authors highlight the dire living conditions of Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, and the continued violence faced by those who remain in Myanmar. The chapter critiques the ineffectiveness of international sanctions and the challenges in holding the Myanmar military accountable for their atrocities. It stresses the need for a decisive international response to resolve the crisis and prosecute the perpetrators to prevent such human rights violations in the future.
