This paper analyzes the “Ecosistema Urbano” report, which has been monitoring the environmental performance of Italian provincial capitals for over thirty years. Developed by Legambiente and Ambiente Italia, the report utilizes the PSR (Pressure, State, and Response) model to evaluate various sustainability indicators, including air quality, waste management, water usage, and urban mobility. By comparing the tenth and thirty-first editions, the paper highlights key developments in the environmental challenges faced by cities and their corresponding responses. It emphasizes how the report serves as a tool not only for assessing urban sustainability but also for fostering accountability and civic engagement.
