1D Ground Response Analysis for Hanamkonda District, Telangana

The amplification and attenuation of seismic waves in local soil strata are critical factors in seismic hazard analysis. This study presents a comprehensive ground response analysis conducted in the Hanamkonda district of Telangana, India. The investigation focused on determining the deviation in peak ground acceleration (PGA) from the bedrock level to the surface level through one-dimensional (1D) ground response analysis using the Deep Soil Software. Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) was employed to characterize the site based on average shear wave velocity within 30 m depth (VS30) according to the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) classification. The shear wave velocity of the sites varied from 291 to 379 m/s and is categorized as site class “C” and “D” as per NEHRP. It is observed that the amplification factor lies in the range of 2.16–2.7. The results highlighted the influence of local soil properties on seismic wave behavior, providing essential insights into the seismic risk profile of the area. This study underscores the need to incorporate detailed local soil properties into seismic hazard assessments to enhance the accuracy of earthquake impact predictions and support the design of resilient infrastructure.
