Buried pipelines are an essential infrastructure component that plays a vital role in the transportation of fluids and the functioning of many industries. The stability of the pipeline is necessary for ensuring that it can function reliably over its intended lifespan. Further, due to the difficulty in land acquisition, the proposed highway or a railway line may be constructed parallel to the already laid pipeline. Therefore, understanding the soil-pipeline interaction and effects of nearby embankment construction is critical for the buried pipeline’s optimal design and performance evaluation. This study describes the impacts of embankment construction on existing pipelines buried in the soil strata. The crucial parameters, like the extent of proximity and placement depth of the pipeline below the embankment, on the pipeline’s vertical and horizontal deformation behaviour, and vice versa, are investigated. The monitoring points for investigating the pipe response are selected as the pipe crown. The study’s results confirm that the vertical deformation at the crest for the pipeline placed at a depth two times the diameter is substantial compared to those placed at six times the diameter. Further, the horizontal displacement is increased as we move away from the pipe laterally.
