Evaluation of Innovative Construction Techniques for Rapid MSE Wall Installation

This study evaluates the effectiveness of three innovative construction techniques for rapid installation of Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) walls: Modular Precast Panel System, Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil (GRS) Integrated Bridge System, and Rapid Assembly Kit (RAK). Conducted across three construction sites with varying soil conditions (sandy, clayey, and mixed), the research aimed to determine the optimal method in terms of installation time, labor hours, material usage, and overall cost. The sites were meticulously prepared with geotechnical investigations to assess soil properties, ensuring accurate data collection. The Modular Precast Panel System demonstrated the shortest installation time, averaging 7 days per site, while the RAK method offered the lowest overall cost. The GRS Integrated Bridge System provided a balanced approach with moderate installation time and costs. Data collection involved direct observation, time tracking, and material inventory, complemented by interviews with site managers and workers. Statistical analysis revealed significant differences in the performance of the techniques. The findings suggest that while the Modular Precast Panel System is ideal for projects with tight schedules, the RAK method is best suited for budget-conscious projects. The GRS Integrated Bridge System stands out for projects requiring stability and moderate expenses, making it a versatile choice for varied construction scenarios.
