Fly ash is industrial waste produced by coal-fired power plants. Municipal solid waste, after processing, is dumped into the landfill; the waste present in the landfill is known as landfill waste. Fly ash is a lightweight material used for filling and embankment construction. Due to their advantageous qualities and extensive availability, fly ash is a resource for sustainable development and civil engineering applications. An attempt is made on the landfill waste to bring an alternative approach to civil engineering applications. The current study thoroughly examines the physical and geotechnical properties of landfill waste and fly ash collected from Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India. Based on the experimental results, landfill waste was observed to satisfy different field application criteria, such as filling material and embankment construction. The suitability of the material is also presented in terms of CBR and shear strength parameters. The experimental results of landfill waste are also compared with fly ash, representing similar CBR and strength parameters (c and φ) ranges.
