Development projects within universities are typically undertaken at a strategic level with minimal involvement with the student population. Although such projects can be used to showcase exemplar built-environment design, they are rarely used for teaching and learning or research purposes. This chapter explores how a university precinct development project was used to conduct research on student sustainability behaviour and to provide education on sustainable and circular built environments. The project was a collaboration between the universities strategic planning team, educators, and researchers, illustrating how non-formal education could be used to raise sustainability awareness in university settings. The project demonstrated that contextualising non-formal education could improve the comprehension of circular economy (CE) concepts by providing an opportunity for learners to interact with real-world problems. Using real-world cases shows learners that CE is not just an abstract concept, and how it can be applied in optimising built-environment design solutions.
