The twenty-first century is marked by rapid urbanisation and escalating climate change, posing profound challenges to cities and their built environments globally. As urban areas continue to grow, they must adapt to the environmental, social, and economic pressures of climate change. The chapters in Part 3 of this book offer a comprehensive analysis of the various strategies that Australia and India are adopting to address these challenges in the policy and governance context, highlighting both commonalities and key differences in their approaches. Together, these chapters illustrate how policy and governance frameworks shape urban sustainability efforts. While Australia employs a more centralised, top-down approach, India’s decentralised system allows for more localised solutions but often faces significant challenges in policy execution. Across both countries, there is a growing recognition of the importance of integrating social equity, climate resilience, and technological innovation into urban planning and sustainability frameworks. This chapter explores these themes, presenting a detailed review of the seven chapters and highlighting common themes, key differences, gaps, challenges, and big-picture connections.
