PAHs are hydrophobic compounds and are thus prone to partitioning onto hydrophobic substrates such as plastics. For this reason, the two are extensively studied as sorbate -sorbent pairs, as it is thought that plastics are a vector for the transport of PAHs into environmental and biological systems. However, PAHs are more than just the mere 16 PAHs that are commonly studied and include a wide array of functionalized congeners, which will affect how sorption occurs on plastic surfaces. Further complicating the interaction is that plastics are liable to being degraded and thus changing as adsorption substrates. In this chapter, some of these aspects are discussed.
