The present study analyzes the pictorial discourse of motifs in Malāyer hand-woven carpets. Renowned for its rich history and culture, Malāyer, a prominent carpet-weaving city in Iran, has long attracted traders and buyers seeking exquisite Persian carpets. Influenced by its mountainous geography and cultural diversity, Malāyer carpets exhibit a wide array of motifs, such as plant, flower, and animal designs, and animal symbols, highlighting the region's agricultural heritage and reverence for nature. Additionally, motifs of kings, demons, mythical figures, and geometric patterns add layers of historical narratives and artistic expression. These diverse motifs symbolize Malāyer’s culture and the social identity of its people. By examining these motifs, we can gain insights into the historical context and social commentary woven into these carpets. Furthermore, this exploration allows us to understand the unique blend of artistry and narrative expressions that defines Malāyer carpets, underscoring their importance as functional items and cultural artifacts. These carpets serve as visual records of the community’s values, beliefs, and experiences, offering a profound connection to the past and a window into the social fabric of the community.
