摘要

This chapter examines the potential of novel photonics technologies that could lead to advances in renewable energy systems as an Industry 5.0 case study. This chapter reviews the way state-of-the-art photonic devices and materials are integrated to improve on efficiency, sustainability and functionality of renewable energy solutions. The thematic scope of the journal includes synthesis, processing, and manufacturing methods for developing functional materials from atoms to devices; fabrication processes based on sustainable energy sources that can be used as a representative tool in material design and technology. A further instance deals with photonics solutions for boosting the performance of solar cells, photodetectors, and electrochemical supercapacitors together with a host of recent innovations. It also discusses the challenges and opportunities in incorporating photonic technologies in renewable energy systems, endorsing sustainable growth and environmental wellbeing.
