The Mangalore Airport, situated in the coastal region of India, has long served as a crucial hub for airline operations. However, the 2010 Mangalore Airport accident thrust the unique challenges of tabletop airports in India into the spotlight. Under the management of the Airports Authority of India, a statutory body, this incident marked a turning point in the airport’s history. Since October 2020, the airport has been under the control of a private entity, operating under a Public–Private Partnership (PPP) Model. This transition and the airport’s tabletop status present two key aspects for analysis: compliance with a tabletop runway and change in facilitation services after the takeover by the private entity. Based on the two important aspects highlighted above, the first part of this Chapter unearths the challenges of tabletop airports, especially in the coastal region and the choice of technology adoption. The observations and recommendations made by the Accident Investigation Committee in their report on the Mangalore and Kozhikode airports highlight thematic issues of tabletop runway safety. These thematic issues of tabletop runway provide a factual matrix to evaluate the standards adopted by the airport. The second part focuses on the impact of the airport’s operation under the PPP model. The passenger feedback will be sourced from platforms like Google reviews to identify the facilitation standards. This Chapter’s thematic focus is on evaluating compliance, and the critical analysis aims to highlight the Mangalore Airport’s challenges with Standards and Best Practices.

摘要
