From Solid Waste to Mathematics of OR: The Concept of Recycling
摘要
This chapter introduces protean systems, which have a typical characteristic, i.e., they change and thereby make decision making difficult and challenging, yet decisions must be made. Every system interacts with external systems and changes arise due to these external interactions. In this chapter we take information recycling approach from the solid waste management to mathematical analysis and illustrate recycle concept on a liner system and derive necessary information for the \((k + 1)^{th} interval\) by using information available from the analysis of the \(\left(k \right)^{th}\) interval system. Recycle concept has been used to find the solution to the changed problem not as a new problem but by making use of the information from the \(\left(k \right)^{th}\) interval problem.
