Multi-Criteria Decision-Making is an area of study covering a multitude of subject fields ranging from daily life, business, engineering etc. The decision-making process is a complex process involving comprehensive reasoning when taking a decision involving multiple factors that must be considered & multiple choices to the original decision, from which a sensible choice must be made. Multi-Criteria Decision-Making is one of the techniques designed for solving such problems. This paper presents a case study for the optimization of productivity in the industry. A case study of the material handling system is selected for this paper. The material handling system is a complex process & accounts for a significant percentage of operating costs in the manufacturing industry due to high labor requirements and associated labor costs. It is also a significant contributor to high operating cycle time, high damage rate, crowded operating conditions, and obstruction to material flow. The proposed study combines AHP, TOPSIS & Cost Benefit Analysis to obtain the optimal solution among various alternatives. During the study, a particular facility’s material handling processes were analyzed and the most significant factors for inefficiency were found. Ten different alternatives were proposed from which one system was selected using the Hybrid AHP-TOPSIS method and Cost- Benefit Analysis. This paper’s results will be a valuable aid to decision-makers in evaluating the complex problems in the industry to obtain the optimal solution.
