As per EY, in 2023, rising hopes around ESG, Sustainability, and Climate change, will top the agenda for mining leaders. Global disruption will also put new pressure on enterprises to discover opportunities to reimagine business models and accelerate system & process innovation and transformation to ensure sustainable operations. While progressing their transformation into purpose-led, low-carbon, agile organizations; mining companies should implement new process frameworks Lean combined with CMMI to improve efficiency, operations & productivity. This research proposes a new lean measurement framework supported by CMMI’s Project Management (PM) processes, which can give the best results to organizations. The CMMI (V1.3)-based PM framework for Lean implementation in Mining, will help in the effective planning & execution of lean initiative at the organizational level. The proposed Lean Project/Program Management & Measurement (PMM) framework is being built on CMMI’s selected Process Area’s practices/sub-practices & work products and provides rating/status of lean practices implementation in an organization. It will provide the AS-IS status of lean practices highlighting the strength & weaknesses, so the implementation team can plan for further focused improvements. It will help companies in implementing lean in a structured way based on a standard & proven project/program management and measurement framework ensuring sustainability, transparency, governance & compliance, and continuous quantifiable improvements.
