Tech-Savvy Pet Feeding: A Smarter Way to Care for Your Companion

The Tech-Savvy Pet Feeder uses advancements in technology to promote easy pet care as well as feeding the pet on time and on the correct diet. The system is controlled by an Arduino microcontroller which is accompanied by a DS3231 Real-Time Clock (RTC) module for better scheduling accuracy, a 4 × 4 matrix keypad to conveniently set feeding time and portion size, and a 16 × 2 Analog LCD for real-time updates on feeding schedules and processes. A servo motor also makes it possible to portion the correct amount of food eliminating wastage and promoting pets’ healthy diets. The system is built in a breadboard fashion to allow alteration of the design or future revisions during its development. The corresponding testing of the individual parts including the RTC module, the keypad, the LCD, and the servo motor were highly accurate and efficient, which can be observed in the output that includes the correct schedule for feeding and the right rotational positions of the servo motor. Parallel testing ensured that the feeder was functional as was the feeder’s ability to dispense meals at the set time and remained in phase with the input made by its users. Feeding accuracy was maintained at more than 95 to operate during a power outage. A merged IoT combined with an embedded system produces the Tech-Savvy Pet Feeder which changes pet care, benefiting the owners and pets immensely.
