Artificial intelligence is an emerging technology which has revolutionized the process of plant phenotyping by enabling the high-throughput, efficient and accurate analysis of plant characteristics. Traditional plant phenotyping was based on the labors and also prone to human bias, however the AI based technologies such as machine learning, computer vision and advanced imaging enhances the automatic characteristics analysis of the plants. RGB, hyperspectral, thermal and multispectral imaging technologies with integration of AI have facilitated the extraction of the plant characteristics which includes stress responses, growth patterns and morphological characteristics. Recent advances like 3D imaging have provided keen insights by capturing complex structure of the plant. In this study review of artificial intelligence technologies such as machine learning and computer vision is made for making the process of plant phenotyping easier, accessible, accurate and efficient. These technologies of AI help the systems to understand the characteristics of the plant in a rapid and efficient way.
