Periodontal disease is the sixth prevalent disease affecting mankind and is multifactorial in its etiology. Treatment of periodontal disease is challenging as the ideal outcome is to regenerate lost supporting structures of teeth. Nanomedicine is gaining much interest in periodontal therapeutic applications due to its demonstrated potential in contributing to tissue regeneration. Controlling periodontal inflammation and arresting disease progression has been the mainstay in the clinical management of periodontal disease. Nanotechnology has shown promising progress in controlled drug delivery systems. This paper tries to narrate the current information in the field of nanotechnological applications in controlled drug delivery and regenerative medicine approaches particularly with respect to periodontal regeneration.

摘要
