With the maturity of the Internet of Vehicles technology, variable speed limit management technology has become one of the important means of highway control. Many scholars have conducted extensive research on variable speed limit technology, forming rich theoretical achievements. However, in practical life, this technology has not yet been widely applied. Based on this, the article first analyzes the applicability of the variable speed limit strategy, and then explores and studies multiple key aspects of the variable speed limit strategy in practical applications. It provides support for the system architecture, key elements such as graded speed limit, information release, and information update frequency, as well as the strategy initiation mechanism and system application process. By regulating speed limits, the safety of drivers and passengers can be improved, while also enhancing their traffic behavior literacy. This article provides support for the practical application of variable speed limit technology and contributes to the control work of highways.
