This chapter mainly discusses the influence of social networks on the life opportunities and perceived wellbeing of the elderly. As new forms of communication with both instrumental and empowering attributes, the Internet and social networks are fused and intertwined with the daily lives of the elderly. Through the mutual integration of the virtual and the real, the elderly have been encouraged to take on a new lifestyle, by participating in public life and daily life through social networks. During this process, the elderly’s opportunities to participate in social life have been diversified and restructured, as shown by their increased range of life opportunities.
