This chapter offers a synopsis of the existing literature examining the various forms of intimate partner domestic abuse and its impact on the mental health of victims with regard to psychopathology. Following this, there is a concise presentation of the theoretical framework related to violence against women and the contributing factors that elevate IPV victimization. This has helped to form the logical consideration to understand the nature of domestic abuse and its impacts that have been addressed by the study’s key questions. Including them helps in setting the foundation for the research hypothesis to deep research understanding about key variables that should be considered in a cross-cultural setting. A considerable amount of literature has been published on domestic abuse in western societies and the Middle East, yet in Qatar, little attention was drawn to domestic abuse issues. As part of this chapter research about domestic abuse in Qatar will be included to support and rationalize the current study framework that has been evolved and established to become a cornerstone in drawing a new viewpoint by utilizing preestablished and tested tools to examine domestic violence which has not been considered in previous research in Qatar.
