Leveraging Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Smart Cities: Insights from Bibliometric Analysis

The adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), information technology and communication has given rise to the concept of “smart cities” with significant implications for several aspects of urban life from infrastructure efficiency to citizen’s well-being. Smart cities offer a sustainable solution to urban challenges and promote citizens’ social and economic growth. In order to make inhabitants’ lives comfortable in diverse sectors, integrating artificial intelligence in sustainable smart cities strive to offer them a smart and conducive environment. There is a need to address the opportunities, identifying key insights, emerging trends and future research directions in this crucial field. This data extraction presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of existing research on the intersection of artificial intelligence and sustainable smart cities. This article provides an overview of the application of AI and trial systems that demonstrate how artificial intelligence may play a vital tool in achieving sustainable management in smart cities and further identifies the research hotspots for the implementation feasibility. This work extracts systematic literature review of citation network analysis from the Web of Science database using several performance measures. With the aid of VOS viewer, the co-authorship between authors and nations is evaluated. The findings reveal that AI in context of smart cities is an emerging field and proposes future research scopes based on study mapping and outlines the research expansion of the significance of artificial intelligence (AI) in Sustainable Smart Cities.
