Investigating Clamshell-Derived NHAp Composites with PLGA and Chitosan for Advancements in Bone Healing

Exploring Clamshell-Based: Clam shell precipitation has resulted in nano-hydroxyapatite (NHAp), NHAp/ PLGA (Poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid)), and NHAp/Chitosan. NHAp has formed if certain FTIR peaks and XRD planes are present. Nanoparticles (NHAp) have sizes on the nanometer scale, with NHAp/Chitosan having the smallest dimensions. The CHNS analysis, crystallinity index, and C/P ratio are used to determine that NHAp/Chitosan has a high carbonate concentration and is not crystalline. The presence of HAp elements in NHAp has been verified using EDX analysis. According to the NHAp/Chitosan possesses desirable mechanical property. NHAp/Chitosan shows promising antibacterial action against two different bacterial strains. Research into hemolysis also shows that NHAp/Chitosan is not hemolytic. After 14 days, NHAp/Chitosan forms apatite in its entirety. Therefore, the NHAp/Chitosan extracted from clam shells may have some value in orthopedics.
