Experimental Analysis of a Hybrid Chilled Ceiling Panel

Passive chilled ceilings are a type of radiant cooling system, which offer several advantages over the conventional all air system which depend on convection only, such as enhanced energy efficiency, improved thermal comfort, reduced noise, and space saving. A hybrid chilled ceiling panel (CCP) has been developed, comprising of two parts, namely cementitious part and fin-coiled part. An experimental test bed system in a test room of 5.56 m2 floor area has been designed to measure the thermal performance of CCP. During the testing, the cooling capacity of this hybrid panel was measured and compared with the same of a commercially available chilled ceiling panel. The results obtained showed that the specific cooling capacity of CCP varied from 180–270 W/m2 for various heat loads.
