This research explores the transformative potential of immersive storytelling, facilitated by virtual reality (VR) technologies and narrative design, in the preservation of residential heritage typologies belonging to Indigenous communities in Northeast India. Focusing on the rich cultural heritage of these communities, the study investigates how immersive technologies enhance the appearance of heritage assets and augment interactive features to facilitate better understanding and navigation experiences. Additionally, it examines the use of visual effects (VFX) to engage people and create interest in the preservation efforts. Through a comprehensive review of literature and a case study approach, this research delves into the unique architectural typologies and cultural practices of Indigenous communities in Northeast India. It demonstrates how immersive storytelling, through VR platforms, offers an innovative means to showcase and preserve these heritage assets, enabling users to immerse themselves in the rich history and traditions of these communities.
