Unveiling Cultural Practices Through Syntactical Values: Introducing Space Syntax Analysis to Traditional Mising House
摘要
The paper introduces the basic concepts and terminologies of space syntax analysis, through a simple spatial configuration. Architects and researchers use space syntax analysis to quantify the quality of spatial conformation and properties and extract information on social configuration. The study aims to understand how syntactical analysis can extract social information embedded in the traditional house of the Mising community. The step-wise procedures for analysis are described along with its interpretation in the context of sociocultural phenomena. The study serves as a stepping stone for further study of the applications of space syntax to the domain to examine the nature of social change in the Mising community of Assam, India.
