Exploring the Effectiveness of Universal Design for Learning from Students’ Perception
摘要
Design education in India is experiencing rapid growth, with students enrolling in the field coming from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds. The challenge that arises in the design education system is how to effectively respond to these diverse student populations. There exist three educational frameworks encompassed by the universal design of education: UDL (Universal design for learning), UDI (Universal design of instructions), and UID (Universal instructional design). Each model adheres to a set of principles aimed at minimizing barriers in classroom settings, enhancing educational accessibility, and improving curriculum access for students with diverse backgrounds. The study objective focuses on finding whether universal design for learning addresses the learning requirements of the students in design education effectively. Findings from the survey suggested that students found out the UDL principle's three multiple means of engagement aligned with their perception. This approach also shows a positive correlation with student interest and engagement, leading to a favorable level of student involvement in the course. According to the survey, findings imply that students can effectively grasp skills with the help of the implementation of UDL.
