Exploring the Relationship Between Product Innovation and Human Factors
摘要
Product innovation has gained importance in the design society as a conscious design thought process to achieve innovation leads to providing better products for evolving consumer requirements. The nature of the industry, target goals, market dynamics, and available resources determine whether innovation is incremental, radical, or disruptive. Young designers often find it difficult to consider these factors when developing an innovative product. Though the literature has informed various factors that can contribute to product innovation, only a few have addressed the correlation of human factors to product innovation. These few articles though have informed about human factors relation to the product innovation, they have not discussed which human factors help achieve innovation and how. Therefore, this study aims to identify the human factors that help make a product innovative. Interviews were conducted with product design experts to unearth these factors by examining established innovative products. The data gathered from the opinions of experienced product designers on the given products provided insight into the previously unexplored relationship between human factor considerations and product innovation.
