Without exception, poverty and humanity have never been in a discussion of co-existence as they hinder economic, political, and social development, primarily in developing nations. Each SDG is complex in its own right, but they are all interlinked, thereby complicating the job of integrating policy, technology, sustainability, and development. Within this chapter, we have argued that an understanding of development and the role that technology can or should play is mediated by ideology, interests, and power relationships within society. For this reason, the role of civil society in setting agendas, devising philosophies for diffusion, creating new children of technology, providing alternative visions fighting poverty, as well as monitoring the impacts of technologies critical during the development is paramount. More research and documentation are needed in developing nations where the majority of the population is working and living under the poverty line amidst the interface between climate and development and how technology intersects with this. Some of the most highly measurable impacts include those pertaining to the generation, collection, and analysis of large-scale data sets. Fixed incentives and the creation of digital audit trails have resulted in fewer over-indebtedness scenarios and improved repayment rates using emerging technologies. For purists out there, the chapter appreciates that the inclusion of digital financial products is a bit of a stretch; it is, though, discussed under the sub-theme of increased access to technology, and therefore, confident that including agricultural macro, small, and medium enterprises will similarly be of benefit controversial.
