The United Nations General Assembly, in its 70th session, adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in September 2015, which stressed the need for a comprehensive global strategy for people, prosperity, planet, and sustainable development partnerships. The 2030 Agenda portrays 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and over a hundred associated targets, involving taking action in such sensitive areas as ending extreme poverty and hunger, ensuring better health and education, more significant economic growth, decent jobs, infrastructures, reduced inequality, cleaner environment, sustainable cities, urgent action on climate, and protection of the world’s oceans and forests, fostered mainly by technology, as this chapter presented a general overview. A holistic approach to sustainable development that encompasses the interconnected dimensions of environmental, social, and economic indicates that it is to become sustainable nations; societies and their citizens must commit themselves to environmental conservation, eradicate poverty in all forms and attenuate inequality and the imbalance of social opportunities; expand economic growth with decent work; and initiate the absolute needs of present and future generations. The technological cross-cutting role in achieving these SDGs, environmental sustainability approaches, and some identified and practical applications of the technology are examined since this requires the collaboration of diverse stakeholders such as governments, the private sector, NGOs, civil society, and affected citizens.
