Intelligent Pill Organizer for Smart Medicine Reminder and Enhanced Adherence
摘要
Non-compliance to medication is a common problem that has an impact on patient’s health all over the world. This research proposes an enhanced Automatic Medicine Dispenser, which enhances the acting time drug management especially to the elderly patients, and especially patients with chronic diseases. Oral medications regimens bring high risks to patient care due to wrong orders in classification and times for taking each tablet. The proposed system is allows for the organization and dispensing of medication thus overcoming these challenges. Through means of illumination and Auditory feedback, smart medicine box is capable of sorting out pills and remind patients when it is time to take prescribed medicine depending on the time on the clock. Its flexible control panel enables the caregivers or the medical staff to put and review time and dosage of medications. This innovation is especially helpful for patients on chronic treatment, those on polypharmacy treatment regimens and caregivers involved in treating many patients since it improves both speed and correctness of drug administration. This project aims to solve a problem of poor compliance to medications by the elderly and the chronically ill. This system employs an Arduino microcontroller board and a Real-Time Clock (RTC) module to issue proper alarms for drug administration. Auditory, viz., buzzer and visual, viz., light emitting diode, notifications are employed in the device to alert the patient on when to take his or her medication. It is friendly to use, affordable and can be adapted based on the schedule. The research in question seeks to promote the goal of enhancing the overall measure of health since compliance to medication is a critical factor, a reality proven by the need for a home healthcare application, which this project seeks to provide. Specifically, we, therefore, suggest the development of an Intelligent Pill Organizer using Arduino Uno in order to advance the cause of medication adherence. The system is able to sort and manage pills, prompt the patient of dosages time and monitor the consumption of medicines. They employ graphical user interface, and notifications are done by means of both visual and acoustic signals. The research is centered on offering cut out-of-need, cost-effective solution to enhance medication compliance, especially of the elderly or of chronic disease patients.
