This study demonstrates the importance of host-based intrusion detection systems (HIDS) in enhancing digital security amid escalating cyber threats in today's connected world. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated digitization and exposed vulnerabilities, requiring strong cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive information and system integrity. The primary goal is to evaluate the effectiveness of HIDS in enhancing the security of digital devices against evolving cyber threats by identifying vulnerabilities in current defense mechanisms and proposing innovative solutions. While the study demonstrates the potential of HIDS, it identifies areas for improvement, including optimizing algorithms for IoT devices and enhancing real-time alert relevance. Continuous improvement is important to stay ahead of changing threats. The study provides valuable insights into the implementation of HIDS and their practical effects, highlighting the ongoing need for proactive measures and advanced technologies to strengthen digital defenses. The paper is in line with Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and communities, as effective cybersecurity measures increase the resilience of urban environments and keep communities safe.
