South Asian countries have similarities in many aspects of socioeconomic status. At the same time, there are variations in language, religion, local culture, health care delivery, and legal structure. Afghanistan, Bhutan, and the Maldives are three countries with relatively small population sizes compared to India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. There are similarities in several aspects of mental health services in countries, such as inadequate services and human resources, along with local challenges like conflict in Afghanistan and the geography of the Maldives. Forensic psychiatry and prison mental health are largely neglected in these countries. In this chapter, we aim to discuss geographical characteristics, forensic psychiatry, and prison mental health services in Afghanistan, Bhutan, and the Maldives based on the available literature.
