In August 2018, in order to coordinate the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Central Government established the leading group for the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, with Han Zheng, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council as its leader, and Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, the Chief Executive of Hong Kong and Fernando Chui Sai, the second Chief Executive of Macao as members of the group. This is the first time that the Chief Executives of Hong Kong and Macao have been included in the central decision-making organization.
