Many of such bodies such as the United Nations (UN) and regional bodies like the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU) contribute immensely to promoting peace and security at both regional and global levels. They work to reduce the potential for war and violence between and within states. Through diplomatic efforts, mediation, and negotiation, they help de-escalate tensions between conflicting parties. It was against the background of the need to address the rising spate of conflicts in Africa that the African Union initiated the ‘Silencing the Gun’ (STG) initiative.“Silencing the Guns” initiative was planned to be achieved by 2020. This chapter sets out to examine the contributions of some international organizations such as the United Nations (UN) and the European Union (EU)—toward actualizing the STG Agenda, examining their roles, challenges faced, and the way forward. The methodology utilized involves conducting a qualitative content analysis by sourcing data from a variety of reputable sources such as published academic articles, institutional documents, web pages, and news articles. The chapter found out that although the target year of actualizing the STG initiative has passed, the Initiative is a flagship project of Agenda 2063 and thus remains a central focus for the AU, recognizing the complexity and deep-rooted nature of conflicts on the continent.
