The partnership between the European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU) under the “Silencing the Guns” initiative exemplifies a collaborative effort to address Africa’s peace and security challenges while aligning with the AU’s Agenda 2063. It focuses on universal disarmament, prevention of armed conflicts, peace support, enhanced recovery, improvement of security and sustainable development. The EU has offered funding, facilitation and technical assistance to include funding of peace support operations and enhancing African-led approaches through the APSA. But there are key emerging issues, such as geopolitical rivalry and perception of neo-colonialism that hamper the partnership. This study utilizes the qualitative method to source secondary data expounded through content analysis. The paper identifies that to overcome these challenges, the EU should come up with mutually beneficial and culturally sensitive policies that can respect the African countries’ sovereignty while at the same time dealing with the security concerns such as poverty, poor governance and inequality. Such elements, as women and youth’s inclusion in peace building processes, synchronizing socio-economic development with peace processes, and applying sustainable sources of financing, such as blended finance, are the suggestions as to how this cooperation can be improved. When working towards the common goals ensuring trust between the EU-AU this partnership will provide a sustainable positive impact in helping Africa to grow and become a peaceful and prosperous continent.

摘要
