Exploring the Relationship Between BMI Categories and Sleep Disorders: A Comprehensive Analysis

Today in this age where every arena known to mankind has evolved their advancements, what is simultaneously elevating its existence by a ten-fold are cases and incidents of sleep disorders that millions of people from all groups face on an hourly basis. Obesity, on the other hand—a main public health issue that is not universally seen until nowdays—continues to climb faster than ever in history causing countless consequences. BMI categorization and its association with sleep disorders has recently attracted the attention both in clinical and public health lanes since BMI is a weight-dependent tool for characterizing individuals. The results of our study have shown that 41.5% of the population suffers from sleep disorders, with insomnia and sleep apnea rates at 20.6% and 20.9%, respectively. For those classified as overweight, the situation is particularly concerning, with an 87.2% sleep disorder rate, unaffected by stress levels and showcasing an increased risk of hypertension, with about 80% of obese individuals affected by it. While our focus remains on sleep disorders, especially insomnia as well as sleep apnea, this study seeks to help in understanding how different BMI categories impact the prevalence and severity of sleep disorders. By exploring this relationship, the study contributes to the broader goal of fostering improved health and quality of life through better sleep health management.
