This chapter draws public attention to the historical injustice of land alienation and subversion strategies on land rights of Adivasis in Kerala with special focus on Attappady. Emerging from an extensive ethnographic field work and content analysis of the historic documents, the chapter attempts to discuss the state government’s role in subverting land acts, and perspectives on land/territory. The study concludes that the state is primarily responsible for land alienation. Additionally, the chapter suggests the importance of providing individual property rights within collective land ownership under the model of a “little republic” and the restoration of Attappady’s traditional system of administration through the implementation of Article V, VI, and IX of the constitution and utilizing all the possible legal measures.
