This chapter highlights the data from the 76th round of the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) conducted between July and December 2018 and provides a comprehensive analysis on the socioeconomic and educational conditions of persons with disabilities with a particular focus on Jammu and Kashmir, focusing on four distinct regions—Mountainous, Outer Hills, Jhelum Valley, and Ladakh. These regions were selected to reflect the state’s geographical, sociopolitical, and infrastructural diversity, each presenting distinct challenges related to education, healthcare, and employment access. Adopting a bivariate analysis, region-wise and gender-wise, an attempt is made to assess the socioeconomic and educational conditions of persons with disability covering disparities in literacy, educational attainment, and employment opportunities. The study, assuming that persons with disabilities (PWD) in sociopolitical disturbed areas and geographical remote regions face unique problems, suggests targeted policy and social work intervention/practice.
