The Malian Conflict, Human Insecurity and the African Union Silencing the Guns Agenda

Over the past nine years, Mali’s complex conflict has caused substantial economic harm and put regional political stability and security in jeopardy. The main objective of this study was to examine the actions taken by governments and organizations responsible to solve these violent conflicts and crises in Mali. This research study was conducted using a cross-sectional design. It is desktop research. Cross-sectional design refers to a particular type of research design in which data can be collected from different sources such as Books, Articles, the Internet, the TV stations such as BBC, Al Jazeera, Press TV, CNN etcetera. The inability of institutions and, consequently, governance to function well in dynamic and changing environments is one of the primary reasons for Mali’s vulnerability. According to the study’s findings, violence is increasing and spreading, institutions are broken, and the military is currently acting ineffectively to address the situation, despite several attempts by national, regional, and international partners. The situation is made deeper and more complicated by the insecurity that has extended from the country’s north to its centre. As a result, social and interregional interactions, economic activity, and political and economic institutions are all disrupted. Regarding the violence in Mali, the Silencing the Guns agenda offers an important foundation. Dialogue, disarmament, and community involvement are crucial steps toward a sustainable peace, even though there are still many serious barriers on the way.
