Creative writing refers to the knowledge, skills, and attitudes involved in improving the ability to write flexibly concerning a variety of tasks and genres, transform a text into a coherent text, and critique and analyse a variety of genres. Definitions of the term creative writing provide a comprehensive view of the multiple meanings. The characteristic elements of creative writing are emphasized following current approaches. This is a form of communicating an experience because it is based on the authors’ personal experiences and their ability to convey them through the readers’ words. Creative writing is accessible, comprehensive, and addresses a wide audience. The content of creative writing is unified with the idea and the feeling it wants to convey and represent. Creative writing urges the writer to be honest, open, and free. Writing requires subjectivity, which technical and scientific texts lack to be creative. Likewise, creative writing can communicate a moral concept not explicitly defined in the text. At the same time, creative writing is the process (when it refers to the act of writing using the creative ability), and the final product, known by its specific name (poetry, narrative, etc.). It is recommended that the creative writing process be carried out in several stages, including pre-writing, writing, and post-writing. The writing process will help students explore ideas before creating a written piece. The creative writing results illustrate students’ cognitive and creative competence to explore ideas for the elaboration of literary compositions. Teaching to develop creative writing skills involves several requirements: developing creative planning, enabling relevant and interesting experiences, establishing a context for creative engagement, stimulating innovation, and carrying out specific activities to develop creative thinking.
