Taro Leaf Blight (TLB), caused by the pathogen Phytophthora colocasiae, poses a significant threat to global taro cultivation. To effectively mitigate the impact of this devastating disease, it is imperative to adopt a comprehensive approach that integrates diverse strategies, draws upon epidemiological knowledge, and implements sound management practices. This book chapter underscores the importance of diversity in TLB management, specifically through the cultivation of a wide range of taro cultivars. The genetic resilience of crops is enhanced by harnessing cultivars with inherent resistance or tolerance to the pathogen. Consequently, the utilization of resistant cultivars and the implementation of breeding programs for the development of novel resistant varieties play pivotal roles in sustainable disease management. Epidemiology assumes a crucial role in understanding the dynamics of TLB. Through the study of disease patterns, transmission routes, and contributing factors, researchers gain valuable insights into the epidemiology of TLB. This knowledge serves as the basis for implementing targeted management strategies, encompassing early detection, rapid response, and the monitoring of disease hotspots.
