Biportal Endoscopic Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion Using Double Cages

Minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MIS-TLIF) with a muscle-sparing tubular retractor has been considered the gold-standard lumbar fusion technique for various degenerative lumbosacral disorders via the posterior approach. The posterior transforaminal approach is familiar to spine surgeons. It has gained popularity for easier access to the disc space with a lower risk of neural injury, direct neural decompression, and a unilateral approach for inserting the fusion cage and bone graft [1]. However, bleeding control, neural decompression, and disc space preparation in the limited space of the tubular retractor are still challenges.
