Two-plane balancing is sufficient to correct dynamic unbalance in the rigid rotor. However, some rigid rotors, like rotor assembly, need more than two-plane balancing, i.e., multi-plane balancing. Multi-plane balancing of flexible rotors via the influence coefficient approach is well established. The study verifies that this method can also be applied for multi-plane balancing of rigid rotors with one modification for the fact that a rigid rotor can be balanced at only one speed while a flexible rotor needs correction for all modes lying within the operating range. For validation, experiments were carried out on an unbalanced rigid rotor: Required corrective weights were first found using portable balancing instrument that supports multi-plane balancing of the rigid rotor and then they were compared with the values obtained from the proposed influence coefficient method for rigid rotor. Experimental and theoretical results matched.

摘要
