Ensuring Safety and Security in Blood Screening Systems Using Decentralized Ledger-Based Technology
摘要
Managing blood screening data is essential for healthcare, yet current systems face significant challenges, including inadequate access to donors’ medical histories, lack of transparency in blood quality checks, and the prevalence of illegal activities in blood donation. These issues have led to serious health risks, such as the transfusion of contaminated blood. This paper presents an innovative decentralized blood screening system utilizing Hyperledger Fabric, a distributed ledger technology that addresses these challenges effectively. By implementing a secure and transparent framework, the proposed solution enables secure access to donor medical histories and accurate tracing of health eligibility test reports. The modular architecture of Hyperledger Fabric ensures the privacy and integrity of sensitive data while maintaining an immutable ledger that enhances trust among stakeholders. Additionally, the system employs smart contracts (chaincodes) for automated eligibility checks, streamlining processes, and reducing manual errors. This study demonstrates how blockchain technology can transform blood screening management by eliminating intermediaries, ensuring compliance with GDPR for Personal Health Information (PHI), and ultimately safeguarding public health through improved data security and transparency. The system also highlights the latency of the frequently queried data and showcases the need to store frequently queried and complex data off-chain. Hyperledger Caliper is used to measure latency for complex query transactions.
