Challenges in the Clinical Application of NIRF Imaging

This chapter addresses critical barriers impeding the clinical translation of NIRF imaging. Potential challenges include constrained tissue penetration depth, endogenous autofluorescence interference, suboptimal signal-to-noise ratios, and unresolved probe biocompatibility concerns. Concurrently, instrumentation hurdles such as achieving high-resolution, rapid multi-channel detection while ensuring system portability and user-friendly operation further complicate implementation. These limitations collectively constrain the diagnostic reliability and clinical adoption of NIRF systems, necessitating continued innovation in molecular probe engineering and imaging hardware to enhance precision, accessibility, and therapeutic integration.
