At the end of Chap. 8 , I considered the relationship between ethics and Kimura’s theory of actuality and reality. In this section, I will examine this question from the wider scope of social theory, including the relationship between “power” and “actuality” theory. However, we cannot conceive of “pure actuality” or “pure reality” in social studies because, unlike in psychiatry, there are always “contaminations” of “reality” in the “actuality” in real social situations because human beings have real bodies. Therefore, if we apply the theory of “actuality” to social theory, we have to introduce a kind of medium between “reality” and “actuality”. To do this, I will reinterpret Giddens’ structuration theory from the “actuality” point of view by considering his “modality” as the medium between “reality” and “actuality”. At the same time, by putting SSM into the scheme of structuration theory as the modality, I will connect structuration theory and C-SSM. This both introduces “actuality” into social theory and provides a methodology to apply “actuality” theory to social studies, which could be regarded as a shift from “realism” to “actualism” in the social sciences.
