Morphological and Optical Investigation of CTAB and PVP Capped ZnS Microspheres

N–cetyl-N, N, N–tri–methyl-ammonium-bromide (CTAB) and Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) capped ZnS nanocrystals were synthesized in parallel employing a one-step hydrothermal technique to explore their enhanced stability and optical properties for photonic applications. Structural and morphological analysis authenticated the formation of the zinc-blende structure of ZnS with spherical morphology. The crystalline size estimated by Scherer’s equation was around 5.8 nm. FTIR spectra confirmed the bonding of ZnS with capping agents and ensured effective capping. UV-visible absorption spectra indicate a direct bandgap of 3.7 eV for each sample. Photoluminescence analysis revealed the emissions in bluish-green region with enhanced intensity for CTAB-capped samples. These findings offer valuable role of capping agents in nanocrystal synthesis and their potential applications in photonic devices.
