In a systematic review conducted in 2014 [1], it was demonstrated that the prevalence of triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) abnormalities increases with age. Among patients under 30 years old, the prevalence was 27%, while in those aged 70 and older, it rose to 49%. This escalation was supported by an odds ratio (OR) of 2.7 and a 95% confidence interval (CI) of 1.9–3.8. Even among asymptomatic individuals, TFCC abnormalities were significant, increasing from 15% to 49% across the same age groups, with an OR of 5.4 and a 95% CI of 3.3–8.9. Symptomatic patients aged 50–69 years old exhibited a prevalence ranging from 39% to 70%, with an OR of 3.6 and a 95% CI of 1.3–9.9. Consequently, the authors concluded that TFCC abnormalities are common in both symptomatic and asymptomatic wrists, with a clear trend of increasing prevalence with age.
